Why Acorn Care Home

Dementia was once seen as an unstoppable runaway train of escalating numbers that was placing undue pressure on nursing home, general and mental health beds, which now has been predicted to lessen over the next decade.  What this does is to open the question of what is dementia?  Dementia is still thought by many as just Alzheimer disease although this is the largest diagnostic group seeking care beds; it has become clear that other types of dementia i.e. vascular, alcohol related brain damage, frontal lobe and dementias associated with movement disorders are now causing major issues for older persons services within social services, general hospitals and mental health.

Acorn prides itself on our high level of specialist care and our rehabilitation facilities are for clients with complex needs and often with challenging behaviours.  Acorn Care is fully equipped to help clients on their way to recovery and a meaningful existence. How much support is very much dependent on the client’s potential.  We believe that the client should be in control of the level of support needed and direct how far they wish to proceed within the recovery programme.  Acorn Care firmly believes in offering the highest possible standard of care.

Acorn staff are fully qualified and trained in a variety of therapies and have knowledge of the barriers, limitations and indeed the frustrations developed by the range of these disorders.  Staff will have undertaken our induction and training on Working Ages Dementia and would have brought to this home many years of experience with clients of same or not too dissimilar needs.

At Acorn Care home we pride ourselves in treating each resident as an individual, with the dignity and respect they deserve. At all of our care homes we ensure our staff have the time and resources to get to know the residents they are caring for.

Majority of our residents have one to one care on a daily basis. This dedicated time means we are able to tailor our service around the care needs of our residents.

• Detailed plans of care written with you or your loved one, where we will address every aspect of your care
• We recognise all your medical, mental and psychological needs, but we also understand the importance of your social needs. We will plan around this area too
• Support not only from our dedicated staff but a range of services outside the home, such as, specialist doctors, nurses, nutritionists, speech, language, physio, occupational therapists
